Three years ago today I weighed 15 lbs less than I do now, and was in a lot better physical shape. Granted, I was 3 years younger, went to the gym on a regular basis, ate the right things, and I’m sure between then and now my metabolism has changed. Nevertheless, I’m approaching the big 3 0, and I’m tired of being overweight and out of shape, for a number of reasons:

  • I have a hereditary tendency to be heavy, so overcoming this now will be a lot easier to do and maintain now than later.
  • I’m tired of looking at myself in the mirror every day, thinking about what I could look like.
  • It’s healthier to be in shape.
    • Too many things to list here
  • I have a ton of clothes that I haven’t worn in a long time because I think I’m too big for them.

So, it’s time for me to get back on the wagon. The big steps here are:

  • Get back to a regular workout schedule
  • Eat the right things
  • Eat less, more frequently

I guess the reason I’m publishing this is so that it’s not just the same old plan that I rehearse over and over in the back of my head and keep saying “I’m going to start next week”. This time, I’m going to do it, and anyone who wants to can call me on it if I don’t. Thus, my rearchitecture begins. Wish me luck!

It happened last week, but I’ve been too busy to wright about it. I dipped below 200 pounds! Pretty exciting for me, since I haven’t been that “light” for over a year or more.

I do know this though: I’m super out of shape. I’ve started working out with my friend and old workout partner again, and we’ve both lost some muscle mass. I ran 10 minutes on the treadmill and just about died. (Clearly that’s an exaggeration, but that’s what it felt like.) Oh well, onward and upward.

More than meets the eye · 16 years ago

I went to see Transformers yesterday, for the second time. I’m pretty sure that it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in years. I can’t convey all of the reasons why, but the short list is:

  1. Really cool cars
  2. Awesome special effects
  3. A very well written score
  4. A good mix of comedy, drama, action, sci-fi

It’s one of those movies for which you almost don’t want to see a sequel made, because there’s no way it can top the first one. I’m going to have to see it at least one more time before it leaves the big screen…
